The leaders of Catholic and Anglican Churches in South Sudan wrote a statement supporting the Cooperation Agreement signed between Juba and Khartoum in Addis Ababa on 27 September.
The Catholic Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba, and ECS Archbishop Daniel Bul Deng issued an appeal made public on Monday supporting the agreements and calling on the signatories to make decisions that bring peace to citizens in both countries.Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference Advisor John Ashworth told CRN on Wednesday that the archbishops said war was not acceptable and that any political differences should not send the countries back to fighting.
Mr Ashworth added that the archbishops said South Sudan and Sudan should share whatever resources from the separation for the common good and without cheating.
The archbishops warned both governments against political games asking them to take decisions that bring peace and stably.
The archbishops applauded the establishment of a demilitarized buffer zone along the common border between South Sudan and Sudan and urged both governments to implement the agreements with good faith.
