The head of Episcopal Church of Sudan or ECS has refuted fears that the cooperation agreement signed last month between South Sudan and Sudan in Addis Ababa has transferred the Mile 14 area of Northern Bahr El Ghazal to Sudan.

Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul told Bakhita Radio that South Sudan did not sign a border demarcation agreement with Sudan.

He explained that the Mile 14 was demilitarized in order stop imminent conflict between the armies of South Sudan and Sudan.

Archbishop Deng revealed that the purpose of demilitarization of the areas was to keep the armies 20 kilometres apart to avoid dangerous confrontations.

The ECS Archbishop called on the citizens to read and understand the texts of the nine agreements carefully to avoid misreadings.

On Monday, Northern Bahr El Ghazal residents staged a protest in Juba about the demilitarization of Mile 14 and the police had to use live bullets to disperse the small rally.
