Eastern Equatoria State Minister of Health is encouraging people to wash their hands with soap to eliminate germs and avoid contracting diseases.

Margaret Itto said harmful germs cannot be removed when people wash their hands without soap.

She made the statement during celebration of Global Hand Washing Day at Torit East Primary School in Torit Town.
UNICEF Hand Washing officer, Sonia Poni said, hand washing day aims at creating awareness on diarrheal and respiratory infections that affect children in developing countries.
She said in South Sudan and Torit particularly, most children are admitted at health centres because of diarrheal and respiratory infections.
Ms. Poni called on the government intervention to address challenges of sanitation and hygiene.
The hand washing day was coloured with traditional dances, dramas, songs and speeches.
