The Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of the Sudan (ECS) was shocked by the level of destruction Sudanese Army carried out in Abyei town.
Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul told Bakhita Radio on Tuesday after returning from Abyei town that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) badly destroyed Abyei.He revealed that SAF destroyed government offices, churches, schools and houses among others.
He said mosque is the only building left standing in Abyei.
Archbishop Deng questioned the rationality of Sudanese Armed Forces in destroying churches and schools leaving the mosque standing.
He said SAF wants to put the two countries into religious conflict.
Archbishop Deng said the Ngok Dinka of Abyei took refuge in Agok instead of going to Abyei town, adding that the paramount chief and Abyei leadership are the only persons left in the town.
The ECS Prelate said the Sudanese Government should question the commander who led the destruction of the area or apologize to the people of Abyei.
Abyei remains a case to be settled between South Sudan and Sudan.
