The Government of South Sudan is set to sign and ratify the Cotonou Agreement in “a couple of weeks.”

European Union Head of Delegation to South Sudan, Sevn Kuhn Von Burgsdorff, explained that the Cotonou Agreement was the most advanced framework of cooperation between the countries in the north and south of the world.

He said South Sudan would join a community of 79 African, Caribbean, Pacific countries plus 27 EU member states.

Ambassador Von Burgsdorff explained that the Cotonou Agreement was the most comprehensive approach toward political, security, trade, development and humanitarian aid cooperation.

The Cotonou Agreement was signed between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific regions in June 2000 in Cotonou, the capital of Benin.

The Cotonou Agreement aimed at the reduction and eventual eradication of poverty while contributing to sustainable development and to the gradual integration of those countries into the world economy.
