The ten governors of South Sudan have endorsed the Cooperation Agreements on Thursday in a meeting with the President of the Republic in Juba.

South Sudan’s chief negotiator Pagan Amum Akec told journalists that Salva Kiir Mayardit and the negotiating team briefed the governors for four hours about the Cooperation Agreement signed on September 27 between Juba and Khartoum.

He said the ten governors endorsed and supported the agreements.

They also discussed the process of implementation by taking the agreements to the national legislature for ratification on Monday.

Mr Amum said the “14 mile demilitarization” is one of the areas of concern among the people of Northern Bahr El Ghazal.

He explained that there was confusion over security arrangements agreed upon by both sides and claims of land ownership.

He said the concern has been cleared and the governor has been asked to explain the security arrangements to the people of Northern Bahr El Ghazal to counter confusion and misunderstandings caused by people who did not read the agreements.

The Cooperation Agreements will be sent to the national legislative assembly for endorsement on Monday when President Kiir will address the national legislature in a joint session to pass the deal.
