An NGO is calling for birth registration to combat child marriage and allow girsl to go to school in South Sudan.
Plan International Gender and Child Protection advisor Angelina Alal said girls in face innumerous challenges to get an education because they are denied basic rights and opportunities, Bakhita Radio reported.She said birth registration would protect girls from child marriage.
Ms Alal said most girls from poor nations, including South Sudan, are discriminated in relation to boys and denied education and sometimes even food.
Mrs Alal was speaking at the commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child in Juba.
Plan International used the national celebration to launch “Because I am a girl” initiative to campaign for girls’ education.
