At least 100 officers, including nine females, from the South Sudan Police Service on Wednesday graduated as the first core of Diplomatic Protection Unit or DPU.
The special unit is tasked with the provision of specialized police services and response to ensure the safety and security of staff, premises and property of the diplomatic corps and UN agencies in South Sudan.Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Interior Alison Manani Magaya said it was another wonderful achievement in the police sector with continuous support from UN and other international partners.
UNMISS provided five vehicles, 40 radio sets and set up the office for the smooth operation of unit that will formally start in November.
UNMISS police supported the eight weeks training program and will continue to mentor, advice and assist the unit.
