The South Sudan archives building will start at the end of this year and is projected to complete after two years.
The undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, Jock Madut Jock said his Ministry has put the opening day to be July 9 2014 to coincide with the third anniversary of the independence.He said the Ministry has commissioned designs and that once designs are completed, the Council of Ministers will choose the best design for the building.
Dr Madut said after the Council of Ministers has chosen the best design, the construction will begin.
Dr Madut said contractor is not yet identified and contract is not signed yet.
He said UNOPS and the contractor has agreed to build in extra six months to one year supervision period to ensure the building operates smoothly in terms of power and structural problems.
Dr Madut said the archives building will use solar energy and will accommodate not only documents, but also public social gatherings.
The Kingdom of Norway promised to build an archive to the government of South Sudan as a gift during the declaration of the independence on July 9 2011.
