MINISTER CALLS FOR GENERAL EDUCATION SUPPORT

The national minister for general education and has called for educational supports to fight the high illiteracy in the country.

Joseph Ukel told the conference organized to mark the World Literacy Day said every citizens had a role to play in eradicating illiteracy.

He said his directorate in partnership with United Nation Education Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO is carrying out illiteracy campaign to people of various ages.

Mr Ukel added that people who had missed opportunities to go to school during the years of civil war in South Sudan had the right to learned.

Mr Ukel said the role of the ministry is to put in place the necessary requirements for learning such as constructions of schools, preparing curriculum, train teachers and writing textbooks.

He said the ministry will design books that will reflect South Sudanese culture.

Minister Ukel said alternative education system is very important to organize forces who had missed learning at teenage.
