Civil Society Alliance has called for South Sudanese to sacrifice their individual gain for the benefit of all the people in the country.

The Deputy Chairperson of Civil Society Alliance, Henry Swaka Joseph said independence is the opportunity to liberate South Sudan from poverty by rooting out corruption and creating a culture of transparency.

Swaka was talking during the opening session of the conference of harnessing natural and public resources for a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan, under the theme “what can we learn from others?”

The conference is ongoing at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba.

He said to avoid resource scarce, South Sudanese should come together to use the resources for the benefit of all the people in the country.

Mr Swaka said managing resources in an effective and sustainable manner is a way of cementing peace.

He said in the last few years, resources were not used for the benefit of all the people of South Sudan.

Swaka added that the oil revenues should be used to develop agriculture, education and other sectors.

He called on the international organizations to support and enhance the capacity of civil society in order to engage meaningfully with government and other stakeholders.

The three-day conference drew a number of civil society organizations, media personnel and government officials.
