The government of Western Equatoria has announced on Wednesday that it was going to lift the ban on teak trade in the state this week.
Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro made the announcement to the state’s Legislative Assembly, the state’s website reported. He said complaints have been raised about the state order to ban illegal teak businesses.
Mr Bakosoro said his administration suspended the teak business because dealers were exploiting local producers by paying low prices.
The governor advised the teak dealers to form an association to help them profit from the industry.
Mr Bakosoro said teak business dealers will be taxed by the state revenue authority.
