South Sudan needs to have its homebred experts on conflict analysis and mediation processes as the country braces for more conflicts on its way towards stability.
This was stated by participants at a four-day workshop on conflict mitigation that it is taking place in Juba.Jimmy Okumu told CRN that the workshop is an opportunity to get potential conflict identification skills and how to set out appropriate strategies to resolve certain issues.
He said the training has given the participants capacity to identify stages of conflict and the skills the mediator needs.
John Chiek Bum Klzier is Deputy Director for Security Research and Analysis Policy Formulation at the Interior Ministry.
He said the training was a continuation of what some participants learned last year in South Africa.
He explained that they are discussing ways to apply the training on conflict prevention of South Africa in the South Sudanese context.
Mr Bum added that conflict prevention is a new field in the international arena and South Sudan needs national expertise to handle the many conflicts in the country.
Mr Bum said conflict prevention and analysis, mediation and negotiation become part of the mitigation processes in South Sudan.
