Gumbo residents, near Juba, are complaining about the land registration process in the area, citing malpractices.
This comes after the Tokiman community on Monday displayed the names of Gumbo people entitled to tokens for land plots.Bakhita Radio recorded some views of Gumbo residents checking on the lists displayed in Rejaf Payam.
Zamzam Yusuf Abdallah said the Gumbo Committee for Demarcation messed up with the people of Gumbo.
She lamented that tokens were issued to people who do not live in Gumbo at the expenses of those who are living in the residential area.
Ms Zamzam said the local authorities broke the agreement to compensate people displaced by the new roads.
She called on the state Government to assist the community of Gumbo.
Dimitry Wani said he only needs a piece of land despite all the confusion because he has no land to stay in if somebody else claims his plot.
Mr Wani explained that he was in the payam to check his name and unfortunately he did not find it on the list.
Alfred Legge said the committee is unjust because it produced names of some people and chopped others away.
Mr Legge questioned where the other people would settle.
Bakhita reporter witnessed many Gumbo residents complaining because their names were not on the displayed list.
They complained that most names in the list belonged to people inserted illegally by some members of the committee who were not part of Gumbo’s community.
Land is a main source of conflict in South Sudan, especially in Central Equatoria and Juba in particular, due to the influx of people into the national capital.
