Lakes State Governor appealed for the expansion of Rumbek State Hospital, after finding a good number of patients admitted under trees due to lack of beds.
Governor Chol Tong Mayay toured the hospital and was appealed with what he found, Good News Radio reported.He told journalists dozens of patients are admitted daily due to a malaria outbreak, a number which Rumbek state hospital cannot accommodate.
The Governor appealed to the National Ministry of Health and NGOs to assist with the hospital expansion and provide basic drugs and adequate medical personnel because the State Government is not able to address the issue.
Eng Tong said the level of insecurity has declined and the number of casualties from inter-tribal violence admitted at the hospital was very low.
Michael Mading Kachuol, who is the Acting Director General in the State Ministry of Health, said f malaria cases are always very high in August and September.
He accepted the allegation that drugs leak out of the hospital and end up in private clinics, although the administration is making an effort to control the matter.
The Governor visited the state hospital due to the malaria outbreak.
He observed that the Inter-Governmental Authority of Development doctors are performing well.
