More than 5,000 people have been displaced in the restive town of Al-Morieb in Abasiya County, Nuba Mountains, following intense fighting between Government forces and SPLM-North rebels.
SPLM-North spokesperson Arnu Ngatulu Lodi said in a statement via email said that over 5,470 citizens from Al-Morieb town were in dire need of humanitarian aid after Sudanese soldiers looted their properties.He claimed that SPLM-North forces took control of the area, killing 61 government soldiers and capturing military equipment.
Mr Ngatulu said that the fighting claimed five lives from the SPLM-North and seven fighters suffered minor injuries.
CRN was unable to confirm the claims independently.
Fighting in Abasiya County started last week.
