Aweil Migration authorities on Tuesday detained a dozen of foreign traders, men and women, who were operating without proper documents.

Ugandan trader Muhindo Alozious, selling cloths in Aweil, said foreigners were surprised to see migration officers with police at their shops asking them to assemble at the migration office on Tuesday, Internews reported.

He said the migration officials appeared at their places around 11:00 AM.

Mr Alozious explained that traders were asked to pay 170 pounds to register plus a fine of 50 pounds.

He added that the migration staff told traders to get visas or face jail.

Deputy Director of Migration Atak Diing said nine men and two women were detained until they found the money to pay their registration.

He told expatriates that have to register and have a valid visa in order to stay in the country.
