Wau County Commissioner has ordered the security to confiscate all copies of Ugandan-based Red Pepper newspaper and banned its circulation in the county.

John Peter Miskin told Voce of Hope that he took the decision after many local people raised objections to the pornographic contents of the newspaper who wvwn brought copies to his office to illustrate their complaints.

He said Red Pepper publishes photos of naked people exposing children and adults to bad morals contrary to local customs and traditions.

Mr Peter said business people are importing newspapers from Uganda to wrap goods in their shops since Khartoum imposed an embargo last year.

He recognized that traders did not want to undermine local customs and traditions.

The County Commissioner urged traders to use newspapers without immoral contents in their shops.

Mr Peter said he met with the head of the Ugandan business community to make sure that the Red Pepper does not enter into Wau County.

He added that officers at checkpoints have orders to confiscate Red Pepper copies brought illegally to the county.

Voice of Hope saw hips of Red Pepper copies collected last week piled at Wau County Headquarters.
