South Sudan is facing a very big challenge to negotiate its permanent Constitution that should be rooted on national consensus.
This is the message from the Director of South African-based Institute for International Law in Africa, Erika de Wet.Ms de Wet told CRN on Wednesday that South Sudanese have to negotiate a Constitution consensual text with which all the people can identify themselves.
She warned that negotiating a Constitution is a very hard process because there may be serious differences to overcome.
Ms de Wet said the implementation of the adopted Constitution and respect for what is embodied in the Constitution text are other major challenges.
She advised that the people of South Sudan to focus first on the basic text through the Constitution Review Commission.
Ms de Wet wished patience, wisdom and tolerance for the future of South Sudan.
She added in the coming months Commission members have to come up with a good Constitution that can make all people in the country happy.
Ms de Wet was speaking after the three-day conference on Constitutional Challenges in South Sudan in Juba.
