The wildlife ministry is conducting a headcount of its forces on the ground to remove ghost officers from the payroll and reorganize the rangers.

National minister for Wildlife, Conservation and Tourism, Gabriel Changson Chang, was Wednesday’s guest at Bakhita’s Wake up Juba show.

He announced that the ministry was dispatching three teams to find out how many officers the wildlife force had in its ranks.

Dr Changson said the force is estimated between 15 and 20 thousand rangers.

He said the ministry wants to know exactly the total number of officers to be included in the payroll and prepare the ranks through military instruction.

Dr Changson said the data collected will be use in the ministry to organize the forces into different functions.

He added that most of rangers feel like they still belong to the SPLA and their function now is very different.

The minister said the rangers are meant to protect the wildlife.

Dr Changson said his ministry is conducting the screening to remove ghost names from the payroll.
