A Member of Central Equatoria Legislative Assembly has lamented the poor state of roads linking Kajo Keji County to Juba, Yambio and Yei and asked the national and local governments to intervene.

Kajo Keji is one of the six Counties of Central Equatoria state bordering Uganda.

MP Jacob Kwinyansuk told reporters in Juba that he was alarmed by the poor condition of roads linking Kajo Keji County, Bakhita Radio reported.

He revealed that Kajo Keji residents had to travel through Yumbe and Koboko districts of Uganda to Morobo and Nimule and had to pay taxes at the borders.

Mr Kwinyansuk said South Sudan Government officials use the same crossings but show their passports to pass through without charges.

He added that poor people and traders cannot afford to pay taxes to move from Kajo Keji to other places in Central Equatoria through Uganda.

Mr Kwinyansuk explained that roads are key for Kajo Keji residents to transport their agricultural products to the markets.

He called on the national, state and county governments to work together to repair roads linking Kajo Keji with Morobo, Yei and Juba.

Mr Kwinyansuk said there is only one modern structure built by the Government in Kajo Keji: the finance office at the border with Uganda.
