The Government of Central Equatoria has signed a joint venture agreement with an Indian investor to establish a sugar factory in the state.

Manepali Sugar Works Limited should start a sugar plant next year in Gemeza, Terekeka County.

MP Jacob Kwiyansuk in the state Assembly told reporters this morning in Juba that the agreement was signed on Thursday by deputy governor Manesa Lomole Waya, and Agriculture and Finance ministers Michael Roberto Kenyi and Jacob Aligo Loladu.

He said the two signatories to the agreement Ð Central Equatoria Government and the Indian invest Ð will share the cost of the factory calculated in 350 million dollars.

Mr Kwiyansuk explained that Manepali Sugar Works Limited wass allotted an area in Gemeza because Mangalla was already given to other investor.

He said both Mangalla and Gemeza were identified as having high potential for sugar production.

Manepali Sugar Works Limited received 100 thousand acres of land for mix farming and production of raw material.

The Indian company plans to employ up to 85 percent of local workforce and will award two percent of total investment to develop schools, clinics and water for the local population.

A training centre for local staff will be established as soon as the company starts operation early next year.
