The Council of Ministers has approved the establishment of a national airline, the national flag carrier, in yesterday’s ordinary meeting.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press Friday that the national airline proposal will involved three shareholders.

He explained that 20 percent of shares belong to the government, 31 percent go to the indigenous private sector and 49% percent are for international investors.

Dr Marial said the Minister of Transport received the green light to go ahead with the South Sudan airline.

The spokesperson said the Cabinet also approved a 158-million US dollar loan from China to complete Juba International Airport, including terminals, car parks and the machines needed for the airport to operate day and night.

He explained that this was the first loan South Sudan made and the money will be used by Chinese companies who will conclude the works.

Dr Marial said the government will start paying the loan after five years at the interest of two percent for a period of 20 years.

The Cabinet also approved the national security policy and strategy, the Cabinet Affairs Ministry’s mission and vision statements and gave the green light to the road map committee.

The Cabinet meeting was chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
