A number of children took part in a drawing competition ahead of the first anniversary celebrations of South Sudan’s independence.

United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Chief of Communication and Advocacy, Siddartha Shrestha, said the children were painting expressions of their own rights.

He said the completion was meant to involve children in different aspects and get their voices heard in South Sudan through arts.

He added that other events with children are going to take place until Independence Day.

Mr Shrestha said UNICEF will award a branded bag with school materials to the children who took part in the drawing contest.

He said on November 20 UNICEF and other children’s organizations plan to conduct a national arts completion for kids.

Mr Shrestha added that the completion will mark the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Officail said the completion will bring children’s representatives from all the states.

He added that UNCEF wants the drawings to be displayed nationwide.

The drawing competition brought together 15 children from various schools in Juba on Wednesday evening.
