Four armed men robbed the Comboni Sisters community in Wau Saturday night.

The robbers in plain clothes and armed with a rifle, sticks and knives, entered the Sisters’ compound after 9.00 PM asking for money, Voice of Hope reported.

Sr. Maria Martinelli, one of the members of the community, said she was collecting the laundry when the four men appeared, pushed her to the ground and threatened her with a gun.

Elderly sister Agnese Bonazza was caught in the veranda and was pushed in a rough way into the refectory where the other sisters were finishing supper.

Sr Agnese, who has been a missionary in Wau for 30 years, said this was the first time such a thing happened to her.

The six sisters were kept in the refectory while the thieves inspected the rooms looking for money and other valuables.

They collected mobile phones, radios, one camera, a laptop computer and some money and left the compound after about one hour later.

The sisters reported the raid to the police and investigations are ongoing.

This is the second time thieves break into a religious community in Wau in the last two months.
