A South Sudanese civil society organization has evaluated UNMISS, the United Nation Mission in South Sudan, performance one year down independence road.

UNMISS was established in July last year.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) coordinator Edmund Yakani told the press this morning that UNMISS made efforts to assist South Sudanese military authorities, organized forces and human right bodies, Bakhita Radio reported.

He added that UNMISS also provided free air transport to organizations and citizens of South Sudan.

Mr Yakan said UNMISS has not sensitized the citizens of South Sudan about its mandate and many people are asking what UNMISS was doing in the country.

He added that UNMISS mandate under UN Chapter Seven is not properly understood by many South Sudanese.

Mr Yakani said UNMISS has done less on technical support to sustain various government institutions.

CEPO recommended that UNMISS reviewed performance before renewing its mandate in the next few days.
