533 out of the 545 students from the four secondary schools in Lakes State passed the Sudan School Certificate exams and only 12 failed.

Rumbek National Secondary School scored the best results followed by Rumbek Town Secondary School, Mapuordit Secondary School and Pankar Secondary School from Yirol.

The State Ministry of Education disclose the results on Saturday afternoon, Good News Radio reported.

Minister Athian Majak Malou told a press conference in Rumbek that the passing results were three percent better than last year reaching 98 percent.

He said the results are already availed to the students at their respective schools.

Mr Majak added that students who obtained high marks, will be considered for admission in public universities.

He revealed that Khartoum is demanding from each student eight US Dollars for the certificate.

The Minister said the conflict between South Sudan and Sudan will not affect the examinations because the two ministries of education signed a memorandum of understanding.

Mr Majak Malou said that the agreement allows students, who have been using the old Sudan’s curriculum, to continue sitting for the examination for a period of four years.

The top three students in Lakes State were Samwel Luol Deng, Daniel Thon Mangar and Zenawi Majok Michael also from Rumbek National Secondary School.

The Director for Examination in the State’s Education Ministry, Marial Manasseh, who announced the names of the top candidates, said 42 out the 44 girls who sat for the examination passed.

Female candidates, who sat for the Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education in March 2012, constitute a dismal eight percent of the total number of candidates.
