A wife to a senior Prison Police officer gunned down two women in a quarrel in Wau.

Newly married Akech Deng Madut and her mother Nyibol Dit were short dead on Thursday evening by her co-wife who is currently under police custody for investigation.

Western Bahr El-Ghazal Police Commissioner Major General Joseph Sebit Nyaiok told Voice of Hope that the shooter was under the influence of alcohol.

He added that she used a Kalashnikov machine gun to kill the two women and then waited for the police to arrest her.

Major General Sebit described the incident as rare since the woman was not a soldier.

He added that her husband may have taught her how to operate the gun or she received some military training.

Major General Sebit said the killings would have not happened if the gun was kept in the garrison.

He called on the organized forces to make sure that guns are not taken home.

This is the second fatal shooting incident this week in Wau.

Earlier on the week, hundreds of Ugandans protested over the murder of a countryman.

Wau residents are concerned about security ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

The police said it took measures to make sure that people celebrate July 9 peacefully.
