The participants at a three-day dialogue in Western Equatoria to share their views on the Transitional Constitution prefer a federal system of governance for South Sudan.
Western Equatoria State civil society groups gathered from Tuesday to Thursday in Yambio under the theme “The Citizens’ Constitutional Dialogue”, Anisa FM reported.Organizing committee chairperson Minaida Peter Giamusu said during the closing speech that the participants favoured unanimously a federal government to fulfil the dream of their fathers from 1948.
Deputy governor Sapana Abui told the participants to be responsible for the Constitution because they contributed to its making.
Mr Abui urged all citizens to read well the Constitution when it comes out to know their rights and understand every article in order to avoid punishment.
The Citizens’ Constitutional Dialogue brought together representatives from the ten counties in the State, Catholic Church, State’s Legislature, South Sudan Law Society, Young Women Christian Association, and Community Organization for Peer Educators in Partnership with Justice Africa.
