An MP from Eastern Equatoria state will face disciplinary action because he resigned from two specialised committees.
The Speaker of the State Assembly Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi told journalists Thursday that MP Charles Udwar is to face disciplinary actions by the House and the SPLM.The speaker dismissed Mr Udwar’s claims that the Assembly denied him the opportunity to move a motion on an urgent and important matter concerning the grievances of the Pari people, whom he represents in the Parliament.
He explained that the issue of Lafon-Lopa County was very old and did not qualify as an urgent matter.
Speaker Ocholimoi said Mr Udwar’s action was against due process.
He added that the MP should not have gone public before the SPLM approved his resignation.
Speaker Ocholimoi charged that Mr Udwar did not consult his community before moving the motion in the Assembly.
He added that some grievances have to do with the Governor and not with the State Assembly, including the construction of a road.
The speaker challenged Mr Udwar to resign from the Assembly because he failed to represent his people.
Mr Udwar tendered a letter to the Assembly to resign from the position of Deputy Chairperson of Economics committee and to take part in organization of Independence Day celebrations.
The Pari and Lopit peoples have been in sharp disagreement over the name and headquarters of a county they share.
Attempts to help the two communities reach an acceptable solution have failed.
