On Tuesday, El-Salam Football Club of Wau headed to Juba to prepare for a regional tournament in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania.
El-Salam FC won South Sudan’s championship and was chosen to represent the country in the Central and Eastern Africa Championship League known as CECAFA, Voice of Hope reported.Rodulf Andrea Ojieka is a member of South Sudan Football Association and part of the Support Committee for El-Salam FC. He thanked the financial and moral support the team received.
He added that it was a great honour for El-Salam FC to represent South Sudan in its first international participation.
Acting Governor Angelo Taban recommended the team to show respect and good spirit in the name of the country during the tournament.
Mr Taban reminded the team that in any game there is always a winner and a loser.
He told the players that they had the great chance to represent the country in the international tournament, an honour also shared by the state.
El-Salam FC striker, Khamis Leon, said the team will do its level best to represent South Sudan.
El-Salam FC is playing the first international representation since South Sudan broke off from Sudan.
The team has 25 players, including three international players from Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria, and four managers.
