Riak Door Primary School that was recently upgraded keeps its name despite rumours that it would be called Rumbek Town Secondary School.

Lakes State Minister for information Charles Badri Mayan dismissed the rumours as false.

He told journalists that the name of the school has never been changed and it is called Riak Door Secondary School.

The Government spokesperson said although Rumbek Town Secondary School merged with Riak Door the latter kept the name.

Mr Badiri noted that the decision to upgrade four primary schools in Lakes State to secondary schools was not influenced by the national Government or the national Ministry of Education.

He said the State Government’s decision to upgrade the schools was an answer to the need for additional space to accommodate the swelling number of pupils graduating from primary schools in Lakes State.

Mr Badiri revealed that the State Council of Ministers resolved to set aside a three-month pay package of over 100,000 Pounds for teachers in the upgraded schools.

Lakes State Education Ministry in February upgraded Riak-Door Primary School within Rumbek town to Secondary School following a proposal and deliberations between the Governor of Lakes State, the Minister for Education and the Director General.
