A football tournament started today in Yambio to promote HIV AIDS awareness through sports in Western Equatoria State.
The tournament, organized by the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, is part of the celebrations of its Centenary of Faith that concludes on December 12 Ð Anisa FM reported.Each parish enters with one football team to the knockout competion.
During the tournament, participants will receive information on HIV AIDS and on the Centenary of Faith celebrations.
Today and tomorrow the 16 teams play at eight grounds: Maridi, Yambio, Namaku, Rii-Yubu, Ibba, Nzara, Ezo and Tombura.
The winners meet on Wednesday in Maridi, Yambio, Ezo and Tombura.
Parishes’ representatives, church personnel and government officials took part in today’s opening ceremony at Yambio’s Freedom Square.
