Wau power station is to light up again after a long shutdown due to technical problems and lack of funds.

South Sudan Electricity Corporation Director General Ernesto Bol Achol told Voce of Hope that the station will start operating soon with diesel supplied by the state authorities.

He said technicians are working on the power plant and supple lines to repair damages before the actual running starts.

Engineer Bol said fuel shortages have put the country’s power stations in difficulties.

He added that the fuel received will only run the station for two weeks.

Engineer Bol stated that the reopening of the station is one of the short term plans of the Electricity Corporation.

He explained that long term plans include the construction of dams for hydro-power production in Juba and south of Wau.

Engineer Bol said most citizens complain about the cost of electricity because they do not understand how expensive power generation is.

The Director General of South Sudan Electricity Corporation reassured those who had prepaid accounts before the plant came to a standstill that they will receive the electricity they paid for because their credit remains in the counters.

Wau power station has been out of operation for almost five months.
