The Church is the voice of people and it should always be at the forefront against human rights violations and other forms of injustice including corruption to make the world a better place.
This is the view of Cathy Arata, Pastoral Services Director of Solidarity with South Sudan.She told Good News Radio that the fast way to make the world a better place for all would be to ensure that people are enlightened about the principals of the Catholic Social Teaching.
She noted that the Catholic Social Teaching has a message for everyone including governments.
US Jesuit priest David Hollenbach in March made a presentation to Members of the South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly on Catholic Social Teaching as guiding principals to build the new nation and in the ongoing Constitution review process.
Sr Cathy said the communities in South Sudan need to embrace reconciliation and unity.
She added that although people would always find it difficult to forgive their aggressors, God is always willing to initiate the spirit of reconciliation among his people.
The US nun said the Church is always calling on her members, the disciples of Jesus Christ, who is the great healer, to be reconciled with one another.
She argued that reconciliation is certainly the foundation upon which the nation can be built.
Sr Cathy is Rumbek directing a three-day workshop on Catholic Social Teaching and the document Pope Benedict wrote to the African churches called Africa’s Commitment.
The participants include priests, sisters and catechists coming from the various parishes of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
