The National Ministry of Commerce has called on traders in South Sudan to improve storage facilities for food and non food items.
This comes after a trader lost 800 bags of flour in a poor storage facility at Juba market, costing him 240 thousand Pounds, Bakhita Radio reported.Mary Gordon Muotuat is the Director General for National Bureau of Standard at the national ministry of Commerce. She told reporters that goods are spoiled mostly due to long term poor storage.
Dr Gordon advised traders to build modern storage facilities with ventilation to keep their goods safe.
She urged business people to buy goods properly labelled with clear place of origin and expiry date.
Saberio Simon, procurement officer of General Diesel Company, said the damaged flour came by container from Dubai through Mombasa to South Sudan.
He said he was concerned over consumers and reported the spoiled flour to the Government to be destroyed.
Yesterday, the Criminal Investigation Department arrested more than 20 men for sticking new expiry dates and repacking already expired goods.
