A couple that celebrated the golden jubilee of marriage at St Daniel Comboni Parish in Wau on Sunday, said prayer kept them together during 50 years.

Martine Khamis and Paulina Alexander commemorated 50 years of life together as husband and wife during the celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in St. Daniel Comboni parish-Hai Darja.

Addressing the faithful during the homily, Bishop Rudolf Deng Majak of Wau applauded the couple’s effort in making a happy family life during a remarkable period.

He noted that currently most young couples end up in divorce.

Bishop Deng told the faithful that marriage is a divine institution that can only be strengthened by prayer.

Mr Khamis explained that the couple had made prayer part of their daily life, especially the rosary.

He said challenges of family life are many and prayer is the best option to overcome them.

The bridegroom thanked the bride for her patience and for being with him through the difficulties of 50 years of married life.

Mr Khamis invited the youths to be patient when choosing their partners and involve their parents in the process.

He asked the young people to ask God to enlighten their choices.

Martine Khamis and Paullina Alexander got married in church in 1962 and have lived a successful family life overcoming all the challenges that are making most marriages break up.

Hundreds of faithful gathered to pray and witness the renewal of vows between the couple in which they promised to care for each other until death do them part.
