The ongoing registration exercise for foreigners in Lakes State should not be misinterpreted as a move by the government to chase away foreigners from the country through immigration policies.
The chief of Immigration and Aliens Control in Lakes State Riak Zakaria Mathen told Good News Radio that the exercise will help the Government to know the number of foreigners in the country and establish the status of their immigration documents. He reiterated that action will be taken against foreigners who are in the country illegally.
Mr Zakaria revealed that the National Immigration Policy gave 30 days for all foreigners to register.
He explained that the registration is different from the Visa acquisition.
Mr Zakaria said one month visa costs 50 dollars for East Africans and 100 for aliens from other countries.
He explained that South Sudanese people holding foreign passports need also a visa.
The Directorate of Nationality, Passport and Immigration in Lakes State on June 7 wrote to all foreigners including Dafuris and Arabs, informing them the registration exercise was scheduled for June 11 to 18.
