Eastern Equatoria state commemorated tDay of African Child with honours to the “Jesh Amer” √ɬê Red Army, the children who fought alongside the SPLA in the liberation struggle for the freedom of South Sudan.

The Day of the African Child is an international commemoration in memory of hundreds of South African children massacred at Soweto in 1976 during a protest against apartheid.

Eastern Equatoria state Acting Director for Child Welfare, Elizio Oting, likened the South African children to their counterparts, the Red Army of South Sudan, who also lost their lives while fighting against bad policies of Khartoum, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He said more children still being killed in Unity and Jonglei states, Abyei, South Kordofan as well as other states along the borders with the Sudan.

Mr Oting cited torture, exploitation and neglect of the disabled children in Eastern Equatoria state.

The Day of African Child this year was commemoration under the theme the right of children with disabilities, the duties to protect, rescue, promote and fulfil.
