The Deputy Minister of General Education has called on the schools to take the lead in keeping their places clean.
Rebecca Joshua Okwaci said during the celebrations of the African Child Day in Juba that her ministry is responsible to see that school environments are cleared of rubbish and safe for children.Ms Joshua said some schools are littered with all kinds of dangerous materials that put the pupils’ wellbeing at risk.
She called on the entire population of South Sudan to exert efforts for a better child welfare.
Director-General of Social Welfare Nathan Pitya Wojia said the Transitional Constitution is not clean about people with disabilities.
He said the Constitution must clarify the needs of persons with disabilities, not people with special needs.
A number of school children in Juba commemorated the African Child Day with a procession from Dr John Garang mausoleum to Nyakuron Cultural Centre.
The celebrations themed “Protect, promote and fulfil the equal rights of children with disabilities”, included drama and poems performed by children and a sports event involving children with disabilities.
