The International Committee of the Red Cross has constructed three solar-powered water yards for over 55,000 people in Akobo County, Jonglei State.
Red Cross Communication delegate Ewan Watson said the three solar powered pumps are a long term investment to save Akobo residents from water shortages.The boreholes were already handed over to Akobo water authorities
Mr Watson said Red Cross will build another three solar powered water yards in Pariang County of Unity State.
He added that the humanitarian organization repaired 20 water pumps in different villages of Pariang County.
Mr Watson said Red Cross installed a seven-kilometer pipeline to bring water to Jamam Refugee Camp, in Upper Nile, to solve the severe water shortages at the place.
He added that the Red Cross plans to install another 15- kilometre long water line in Jamam so that during the rainy season people have access to clean water.
The Red Cross is constructing water yards as a sustainable way to supply communities in remote areas with clean water.
