A prison wardress and four other people were injured by lightning in different locations of Torit during the same heavy storm.

Unconfirmed reports said another person was also killed by a lightning in Lafon-Lopa County on the same day.

Similar thunderstorm-related cases were reported in Magwi County.

Colonel Odiongo said three children cheated death after they were rescued from drowning in Ilangi River following a heavy rain downpour.

Many houses were destroyed by floods leaving several families homeless.

Colonel Odiongo called on the state Government to rescue the affected people with shelter and food.

He said the natural disaster added to the problems that are affecting the people of Torit.

Last year, similar heavy rains flooded parts of Torit, caused huge losses and affected about 800 families.
