A civil society group organized today a rally in Juba to support the President’s decision to ask past and present corrupt members of Government to hand back the money they stole from public coffers.
At the beginning of May, Salva Kiir Mayardit wrote to present and past Government members asking them to return stolen money through a bank account in Nairobi.Biel Boutros Biel, Secretary of South Sudan Civil Society Alliance, told Bakhita Radio that the members of the Alliance were demonstrating in support of the President’s decision to call back stolen money from suspected corrupt officials.
He said the Alliance is calling on the President to prosecute the suspects in court.
Dr Biel added that the Alliance urged the office of the President, the Anti-corruption Commission and the national ministries of interior and justice to cooperate with one another in order to arrest and prosecute the suspects.
He also called on the public to cooperate with the Anti-corruption Commission and provide any valuable information that could lead to the prosecuting of corrupted government officials.
The procession under the theme √É”Our people, no protection to corrupt officials” began at Juba Bus station and ended at the Parliament roundabout.
