The negotiations on post-independence outstanding issues between South Sudan and Sudan will resume within ten days after a pause for consultations.
The African Union High Level Implementation Panel wrote in a statement yesterday that the parties will return to Addis Ababa on June 19 to continue with their negotiations on boundary disputes. The talks resumed last week and were suspended for consultations after the parties reached a stalemate over the maps they presented for negotiating a demilitarized area along the common border.
The AU Panel, which mediates the negotiations, said South Sudan and Sudan agreed to deploy national observers to the temporary headquarters of the Joint Border Verification and Monitoring Mission in Assosa, Ethiopia.
The statement added that both parties reaffirmed their commitment to respect the cessation of hostilities and the unconditional withdrawal of forces to their side of the border.
They also agreed to cease harbouring and supporting rebels against the other State.
