Western Bahr El Ghazal Prison Services Headquarters is distributing newly recruited prison officers to work in the counties of the state and take the pressure from the central prison.
Prison guards who graduated recently are being sent for duty to their counties of origin to help handling prisoners locally, Voice of Hope reported.This came as a result of various efforts to reduce the number of inmates in Wau Central Prison which accommodates prisoners from the three states of Greater Bahr El Ghazal.
General Director of Prison Service Anthony Majok Makiah said the process of distributing prison warders will reduce the number of prisoners at the central prison by fostering prison services in payams and counties.
He said the prison of Wau was built or 200 and it has over 600 inmates.
Mr Majok said Raga prison will accommodate inmates serving short sentences.
He thanked UNDP for supporting the rehabilitation of Raga prison.
Mr Majok praised the Catholic Church for giving spiritual assistance to inmates and praying with them every Saturday.
He urged believers to continue visiting the detained and share with them the Word of God and important social values.
Mr Majok urged Western Bahr El Ghazal citizens to open their hearts to people who were or are still in prison and treat them well as they are part of the society.
Jur and Raja counties have already received their prison warders.
