Acute malnutrition is increased in Tonj South County of Warrap State and it can get worse in July.
Magai Chol Magai is in charge of Nutrition in Tonj South. He told Don Bosco FM that malnutrition cases are growing due to hunger and lack of nutritious food stuffs. He said acute malnutrition is expected to be highest in July since people did not cultivate much last year due to drought.
Mr Chol said the Stabilization Centre for Malnourished Children in Tonj Hospital does not have enough beds and room to admit mothers with children.
He urged the Government to support the centre with beds, mattresses, and if possible to build extra wards to accommodate the children who need internment.
Mr Chol asked the population to eat nutritious foods including vegetables, proteins and vitamins to keep them healthy and strong.
The Stabilization Centre has currently 25 mothers with their children.
