Eastern Equatoria state residents paid their last respects to Police Commissioner Major General Malok Riing Kiir in a sombre mood.

Major General Malok, 51, encountered his death tragically on Saturday, allegedly at the hands of an armed gang on his way from Juba to Torit where had gone on duty.

Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong described Major General Malok as an irreplaceable person for his hard working abilities as the head of the police force in the state, Radio Emmanuel reported.

The Governor noted that getting an officer with similar traits and vision is a difficult task.

Mr Lobong termed the demise of Major General Malok as a big blow to Eastern Equatoria saying the deceased had a vision to transform police service in the State.

The Governor said in his condolence message that Major General Malok was full of energy, optimism and love for this country.

The message was read on the state radio.

Mr Lobong observed that Major General Malok was a reformist who had the ability to change the face of the Police and the attitude to create a strong force.

He urged the police officers to resume their usual duties as they continue mourning Major General Malok.
