Over 1,000 primary eight candidates are going to sit for the national exams this year in Nuba Mountains.

Education minister Simon Kalo revealed the figure to a local radio station.

Mr Kalo said that the secretariat of education has coordinated with a NGO to provide accommodation for the candidates during the exams.

He said this year Nuba Mountains students are attending secondary school in Yida Refugee Camp, in South Sudan.

He added that the education authority is planning to open at least one secondary school in Nuba Mountains next year.

The office of the secretariat of education said the candidates will go for holidays for one month. By August they should be back at coaching centres to prepare for the exams.

The minister encouraged secondary school students particularly those in Yida to be patient for things will change soon.

Earlier this year, the secretariat of education in Nuba Mountains expressed doubts about the secondary schools in Yida after the organization that promised to assist secondary schools failed.
