DUTCH MINISTER PLEDGES SUPPOR TO SOUTH SUDAN

A visiting minister from the Netherlands said his country is ready to support South Sudan in the various development needs of the new nation.

Minister for International Cooperation and European Affairs, Ben Knapen, said South Sudan is one of the 15 countries that benefits from the Dutch cooperation programme, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said his country’s main focus in South Sudan is security, rule of law, food security and water.

Mr Knapen added that the Netherlands firmly believes in creating a viable investment climate in South Sudan, adding that there is ample interest from Dutch companies to invest in the new country.

The Dutch cooperation minister is in South Sudan to meet President Salva Kiir, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Grace Daterio and SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum.

Mr Ben visited Rombur Police Academic and International Organization for Migrations temporary shelter for returnees at Juba Teacher Training Institute.

He also inaugurated the Dutch embassy at the EU compound in Juba.
