A health official in Western Bahr El Ghazal state capital Wau said yesterday that infants’ deaths from malaria have gone up by two percent this year.
The state coordinator for malaria control Abdelgadir Mudwak Acuil explained that more than 46 percent of children under five have died of malaria since the beginning of this year.He added that deaths among the children above five years are about 34 percent but it has reduced significantly.
Mr Mudwak added that the state did not celebrate World Malaria Day Wednesday because it needs to prepare it well, saying the state will celebrate the occasion on May 4.
He said the department will distribute mosquito nets in Momoyi C area to pregnant women through antenatal care, the children and free malaria consultation on that day.
Mr Mudwak urged mothers and pregnant women to sleep under mosquito nets every night.
On Wednesday the world celebrated malaria day under the theme “Sleeping under mosquito net every night is the best way to prevent malaria.”
